●Feedback from lecture

After the first lecture, I was just nerves and had fun. But I could understand what we will learn this class and get skills to improve ourselves. I'm looking forward to enjoy this university life with fun lessons.

●Visual search (about gestalt and contrast)

The human brain is wired to see patterns, logic, structure. In the 1920s, a group of German psychologists developed theories around how people perceive the world around them, called "Gestalt" principles. This is applicable when studying design.

"Contrast" is the juxtaposition of opposing elements (opposite colours, value light / dark, direction horizontal / vertical). The greater the contrast, the more something will stand out and call attention to itself.

Why I selected these design is that I was interested in the way to compose to show gestalt and contrast. Particularly, the design of carrying a baby on bottom left is so uncomplicated. The arm holding the baby is easy to see.

●Final design (Idea exploration)

I cut the black paper such as an apple which is eaten by woman to express gestalt.
I also tried to make the leaf of an apple. I thought that it is difficult to draw, so I just cut the paper. It was interesting.

And I tried to express contrast with cutting the black paper such as cat is looking back. It shows that there is white cat and black cat. Also it looks the time is different, night and morning. It is really cool that I can express it only using contrast.

●Brief reflection

After this exercise, I could understand foundation of design principles. The impression would be change by focusing these design principles. I can't wait to improve my design skill. I'm just looking forward to learn a lot of things of design from now.
