Week 01 :

– What is Research?

(1) These are not essays or essays in the traditional sense. An essay, often known as an essay, is a personal statement. Essays and essays are different from theses in that they do not require arguments, merely a general sense of the author's feelings. It is sufficient to write in an essay that 'life is empty.' It's enough if the author thinks so. In an essay, however, the author must present objective evidence for why life is meaningless. To persuade the reader, a thesis must have arguments and a logical foundation.

(2) A thesis isn't a one-size-fits-all piece of writing. A thesis is written with the intention of being read by an unknown number of individuals. It must be written in such a way that the reader comprehends the information and agrees with your points of view. It shouldn't employ symbols or concepts that are only understood by your peers. The paper must be written in such a way that it may be read and understood by an undefined number of individuals, rather than just you.

(3) The thesis is not a summary of a book. A thesis is not a written summary of one's impressions after reading a book that is the subject of investigation, as is commonly found in graduation theses on foreign literature studies. A thesis must respond to a specific question. "Is 00 xx?" the question must be expressed explicitly. "Is 00 xx?" the question must be expressed explicitly. A thesis is not a text that does not pose a question.

(4) A thesis isn't a piece of artwork. A thesis is a piece of literature that seeks to persuade the reader with an academic argument. It is necessary to write in a clear and logical manner. A thesis isn't a rehash of prior work.

(5) The argument is not a rehash of previously published work. Even if it has thoroughly investigated earlier research, a thesis may not be a thesis. This is due to the fact that it lacks an argument of its own. It is not a thesis* if you do not have your own argument to make regarding the academic subject you are working on.

Week 02 :

– How to write research?
  1. Overview
  2. Introduction
  3. previous research
  4. the main argument
  5. Evaluation
  6. Summary
  7. References
1, Abstract
In a few hundred words, the abstract summarizes the entire paper. When someone reads your article for the first time, they will look at the abstract to see if it is in an area of interest, fascinating, or dull. Include everything from previous research to a summary and conclusion in a straightforward manner.

2, Introduction
The author outlines the background to the problem that will be answered through this research as well as the significance of the question in the introduction. The author should explain what he or she hopes to learn from this research, why he or she chose to do it, and what the research's social importance is in the introduction.

3, Prior research
Prior research tackles current research relating to the issue you are researching and their problems and open questions. Prior research is a line you should strive to cross as well as cross. It is crucial to summarize prior research not only in terms of praise but also in terms of criticism.

4, Thesis Statement
The main thesis statement summarizes what you want to do throughout your dissertation and details how you tested it. To indicate to the reader that you have properly explained and appropriately 'tested' your 'hypothesis,' be as precise as feasible.

5. Assessment
The phase where you evaluate and discuss how well what you tested in this study solved the original hypothesis and solved the challenges of earlier research is called evaluation. Make an honest and impartial assessment of whether the initial hypothesis was tested successfully or not.

6, Conclusion
This is the section in which you summarize the paper's findings in a clear and straightforward manner. "I was able to reveal so much, but I didn't grasp this part, please pass the baton to the next person!" and pass the baton to the future. If you choose to perform more research on the same subject, the baton will be passed to you in the future. Write in a clear and honest manner.

7, References
The books, journals, internet pages, newspaper articles, and other sources you used to write your paper are referred to as references. Stealing is when you quote a work without citing it in your bibliography. Always summarize and incorporate your references from the research stage towards the end of your report.

Week 03 :

– How to read the research?

You must read the publications in which past research has been written' before writing your dissertation. It is an understatement to claim that the quality of the paper you write is directly proportional to the number of relevant publications you have read.

First, read the 'Abstract' and 'Summary.'
Read the 'Abstract' and 'Summary' first while reading a document. You can get a basic impression of the paper's direction and conclusions/issues from the Summary and Abstract. Continue to the main body of the paper if you find something interesting here.

Have a critical eye
Previous study had several flaws. There are several flaws as well. Don't take an article's content at face value; instead, read it with a critical eye.

Read a number of papers on related themes.
It's also a good idea to read a bunch of related papers. Minor differences and similarities will be highlighted by reading and comparing numerous similar papers. Reading several in a row will also aid in the consolidation of your information and the alleviation of your discomfort.

Make a note of key details.
It can be exhausting to attempt to read every document precisely, so read gently, putting in 50-80% of your effort, and use a highlighter to underline any areas of interest so that you can readily identify the main elements when you return to them later.

Dissertations can also be found on the internet.
If you're a student at a university, you can borrow your thesis from the library or receive it from a trustworthy teacher or senior colleague. However, if you're conducting field research, this can be challenging. To find papers in your subject of interest, use Google Scholar or CiNii, which allow you to check up papers online. More and more articles are now available for download online; nevertheless, if you are unable to do so, order the item from the search results or pay a visit to the institution if it is located nearby.

– A bad thesis has the following characteristics.

'Bad theses' have basically the same features across all academic areas.
  1. Sentences that are self-satisfied
  2. Sentences that have been turned into poems
  3. In terms of general notation, there is a lack of consistency.
  4. Subjective
  5. Sentences that are extremely long
  6. The sentence style is either "is," "is," or "is," or it is not unified.
  7. Text that needs to be accompanied by figures and tables is left unaltered.
  8. Arguments and references are eliminated.
  9. Before writing the thesis, prepare a research proposal and organise the information.

– The instruction

As mentioned in the online classes, you are expected to finalise your assignment # 1 RESEARCH PROPOSAL independently. The majority of you have three weeks window of meetings with me to discuss your research topic and anticipated proposal. However, there are a few of you who have missed all the tutorial sessions without any reason. I would expect you to refer to the recorded tutorials and the prepared files to really understand the submission requirements. Below description is the extracted requirement of assignment # 1 RESEARCH PROPOSAL from your MIB, Module Information Booklet that I have shared in the General Files of Teams and TIMeS.

Again, let me remind all of you that the dateline for this assignment # 1 RESEARCH PROPOSAL will be this SUNDAY, 24th April 2022 by noon (at 12.00 pm).

Below information is what I would expect in your RESEARCH PROPOSAL - In Slide sequential format. (Please convert the PPT file into PDF before upload here in Google Classroom). Thus;

1. Identify a Research Problem within a topic of research
2. Write a Research Rational
3. Write a Problem Statement with citations about the research problem
4. Identify relevant Research Objective(s) - ROs
5. Formulate a Research Question(s) – RQs about the Research Objective(s) – ROs
6. Place a Title of the Research on the first page of this submission
7. Added the References used at this initial research stage (reliable one please!) in the APA version 7 format referencing style as what you have learned in the Research 101, Library Information and Literacy Workshop last week.

I also placed here some past examples for your references only as they may not follow the exact requirements of this semester. Please refer to the above items # 1 - 7 to consider a complete RESEARCH PROPOSAL.

So after I got feedback for my topic, I re-selected the topic again, "Transmission and Development of Yokai Culture in animation and media content". Also I tried to research this topic more and more.

For this week, I just learned what is research and so on. To be honest, I really don't like to write something like formal. But, I would like to try it and get some ability of writing skills as well.

Week 02 :
General feedback
I could know how to write good research and compose it well. Also, it was first time for us to get feedback of own research topic.

Specific feedback
Need to study the topic I selected from article by some students.

Week 03 :
General feedback
After the brief of lecture, we got feedback of own research and required to submit in Google class room with PDF.

Specific feedback
Need to think of a research problem. Make sure how to use google file and SNS tool.
Update the Weekly Progress Reflection Sheet as well.

Week 04 :
General feedback
For this week, I just got feedback without some lecture. Also I could know the date which I have to submit as assignment.

Confirm the reference which is from a scholarly article. without some magazine, website etc.

●Reflections

>Experience
It was first time for me to write the research so I could learn about it well. It was kind of difficult for me to do well, but I supposed that I could have good opportunity to explore own idea for the topic as formal.

>Observations
From this experience, I realized that I have to learn English in order to express in it with own words. It's necessary process for me to get knowledge of language for doing some task. So I decided to study by the initial point, basic grammar and words as well.

>Findings
I got some points that I can write research well such as using translate apps, searching an other words apps. These make me more clever.
